Executive Functioning Coaching

Executive functioning skills are the mental processes that help us plan, organize, manage time, regulate emotions, stay focused, and follow through with tasks. When these skills are underdeveloped or impaired, individuals may struggle with school performance, work demands, organization, motivation, task completion, emotional overwhelm, and daily routines.

At Audra Walsh Psychology Group, we offer Executive Functioning Coaching to help children, adolescents, college students, and adults develop practical and sustainable strategies for managing everyday demands more effectively. Executive functioning challenges are not a reflection of intelligence, character, or effort. Many individuals are trying very hard but continue to feel overwhelmed, inconsistent, frustrated, or stuck despite significant effort. Our goal is to help clients build practical systems, routines, and skills that support greater confidence, independence, and success across settings.

Who Might Benefit from EF Coaching?

Executive functioning coaching can be beneficial across all ages and ability levels, including elementary school students, adolescents, college and graduate students, working professionals, entrepreneurs, and high-achieving adults.

Coaching may be helpful for individuals who experience:

  • Difficulty starting or completing tasks

  • Chronic procrastination

  • Trouble managing time and deadlines

  • Organization difficulties

  • Emotional overwhelm related to school, work, or daily demands

  • Difficulty balancing responsibilities independently

  • Challenges with planning, prioritizing, self-monitoring, or follow-through

  • Inconsistent routines and habits

  • Stress related to increasing academic, workplace, or life demands

Many clients seek coaching after noticing that their intelligence and effort are not translating into consistent performance, independence, or follow-through.

What is EF Coaching?

Executive Functioning Coaching is a goal-oriented, skill-building service focused on improving the systems and habits that support success at school, work, and home. Coaching targets real-world functioning and may focus on:

  • Organization and planning

  • Time management

  • Task initiation

  • Prioritization

  • Study skills and test preparation

  • Emotional regulation

  • Self-monitoring and accountability

  • Flexible thinking and problem-solving

  • Routine development and habit formation

Our clinicians work collaboratively with clients to develop practical strategies that can be applied consistently across environments. Sessions are structured, supportive, and action-oriented, with an emphasis on building sustainable routines, greater independence, and increased confidence over time.

Our Coaching Approach

At Audra Walsh Psychology Group, we recognize that executive functioning difficulties often do not occur in isolation and may be connected to attention difficulties, learning differences, anxiety, emotional regulation challenges, or broader developmental concerns. Because of this, our coaching services are informed by clinical expertise, evidence-based interventions, and a deep understanding of child, adolescent, and adult functioning.

No two coaching plans are exactly alike. Coaching is individualized and tailored to each client’s strengths, needs, developmental level, and daily demands while remaining grounded in evidence-based and research-informed executive functioning strategies.

Our coaching approach may include:

  • Evidence-Based Interventions-We utilize evidence-based and research-informed frameworks to guide intervention planning and skill development. Coaching strategies may draw from approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), executive functioning interventions, organizational skills training, and behavioral support strategies.

  • Parent Involvement and Support- For our youth clients, parents play an important role in supporting executive functioning skills outside of sessions. Depending on the age and needs of the client, coaching may include parent consultation, collaboration around routines and expectations, and strategies designed to reduce conflict and support increasing independence at home.

  • School and Workplace Collaboration-With appropriate consent, clinicians may collaborate with schools, counselors, teachers, academic support teams, or when appropriate with workplace supports (again with consent, of course) to help promote consistency and success.

  • Accountability and Skill Generalization- Executive functioning coaching is most effective when skills are practiced consistently between sessions. Coaching includes accountability, progress monitoring, individualized goals, and practical real-world application designed to help clients build lasting change over time.
