Kimberly Knap, PhD

Pronouns: she/her/hers

I am a licensed psychologist, a Nationally Certified School Psychologist, and a Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) Certified Therapist/Level-1 Trainer. I have over eight years of experience working with children and families across settings including clinics and schools.

I earned a doctorate in School Psychology from the University of South Florida, with an emphasis in Early Childhood Education and School-Based Mental Health. I have worked with youth and their families to assess and treat a variety of concerns including challenging behaviors, anxiety, depression, attention and executive functioning deficits, autism spectrum disorders, emotion dysregulation, social difficulties and learning disabilities. I utilize evidence-based treatments such as PCIT, behavioral therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, and individual and family therapy approaches to help my clients reach their goals.

As a PCIT therapist and certified trainer through the Helping Our Toddlers, Developing Our Children’s Skills program, I have extensive training in the assessment and treatment of challenging and disruptive behaviors. I have worked with parents and teachers by coaching and teaching them how to understand their child’s behaviors and reduce the intensity and severity of these behaviors through behavioral therapy approaches.

I am a member of the American Psychological Association and the National Association of School Psychologists. I have also authored publications on the use of PCIT for children with autism spectrum disorder.

I live in the city of Tampa, Florida with my husband, our Golden Retriever, and cat. I enjoy exploring the outdoors, trying new restaurants, and curling up with a good book.
